The missy jackson brand was born out of two things… the first COVID lockdown back in 2020 and the retirement of my father who dedicated almost 60 years of his life to the rag trade. I could not let all that knowledge and a love of fabrics end there…. so I got sewing.

My nan taught me to sew at a young age on her big black Singer sewing machine. She lived with us growing up and I would spend hours at that machine after school and in the weekends. Thank you Doris Joy for teaching me how to sew in a straight line!
As a teenager I started making my own clothes, experimenting with velvets and tartans and lace. I would go to my dad’s factory on a Saturday morning and sell fabric by the metre to passers-by then bring home offcuts and spend the next few hours making my outfit for Saturday night.

As an adult, and when my daughters came along, I ventured into interiors and home décor. Choosing fabrics that don’t harm the environment is important to me, so I choose natural fibres where I can and only use compostable packaging. I also hope to bring back this industry to New Zealand and reduce the reliance on imported products. I have a bit of an obsession with colour and pattern. Whether it is fabric, paint, makeup, or hair, I have never wanted to blend into the background. You only live once, Be Bold!
