Slice of Heaven #2
Created with sand and gold leaf
140 x 135 mmÂ
My work explores the quiet power and refined simplicity of nature. Using natural sand, crushed minerals, sculptural plaster, and gold leaf, I create textured surfaces that echo wind-carved dunes, tidal patterns, and the organic lines shaped by time and elements. Each piece is built in layers to capture movement, depth, and the subtle rhythm found in the natural world.
In this new series, I introduce three-dimensional plaster forms to enhance the tactile quality of the surface. The sculpted ridges and contours respond to light throughout the day, casting shifting shadows that transform the work from morning to evening. Much like nature itself, the pieces are dynamic and never static, evolving with their environment and the seasons.
Gold leaf is carefully applied along natural fractures and flowing lines, drawing inspiration from the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi, the art of highlighting cracks with gold rather than concealing them. These gilded accents celebrate resilience and the beauty found in imperfection and change, elevating what might otherwise be hidden.
Across my wider body of work, my intention remains consistent: to reconnect people with the grounding textures of earth and the calming presence of nature within interior spaces. Through natural tones, rich texture, and precious highlights, I aim to create contemporary yet timeless pieces that invite stillness, reflection, and connection.
I invite you to explore my other series and artworks to experience the full evolution of this ongoing dialogue with nature.
