This artwork is based on Mai i te Maunga ki te Moana, recognising the spiritual and ancestral connections between papatūānuku me te Moana. The wāhine figure represents strength, knowledge, and continuity as she walks forward into the future, guided by her tūpuna. The korowai, held open and ready to be adorned symbolises protection, identity, and transition. It reflects a moment of change, where past, present, and future come together. It connects Te Tai Rāwhiti and Taranaki expressing whakapapa connections across whenua and moana. This work is dedicated to my late pāpā and my own journey, reflecting resilience, protection, and staying connected to whenua, tikanga, and whakapapa while moving forward.
