Mother of Morning Light
Felt, wool blanket, and faux leather

The Beast in the Room emerges from a year of anger at witnessed struggles, the suffering born of indifference, and misuse of power. We are allowed our anger, that gnashes, and bites, and creeps up quietly with a low growl. Constructed from hand-cut layers of felt and leather, this work takes form as a waking creature: eyes opening, teeth bared. It gives presence to an emotion often contained or dismissed, inviting it instead to be seen, acknowledged, and held in the room. Mother of Morning Light embraces the relief that is present in the light of a new day. Upon waking, there is always light, a warmth to open our eyes to. Constructed predominantly from an old wool blanket, this work embodies comfort, family, and care. Materials that hold memory as much as form.
