Hannah Schickedanz’ first pairing brings together “Longhaired Juvenile with Kauri Twig” and “Fragment” a small, tightly cropped portrait study. The larger painting is gentle and contemplative: a fur-covered figure holds a kauri twig gathered during her residency at the Wellington Botanic Gardens. The scene feels private, almost hushed — an invitation to consider how we relate to the land, and how inherited histories can sit quietly within us. The small companion piece offers an intimate close view of a woman’s face, grounding that broader reflection in something immediate and human. The second duo also comes from her time in the Botanic Gardens: an enamel mug illustrated with botanical treasures, and a large fine art print from the same series. These works celebrate noticing — the simple act of gathering leaves, seeds, and moments, and recognising the joy in small, ordinary things.
