My artwork draws inspiration from the beauty I find in nature and my surrounding environment. Particularly the New Zealand native bush, plant life and spectacular landscapes and ocean vistas. I enjoy experimenting with various mediums and techniques allowing the paint to take its own shape on the canvas. Reflecting the unpredictability of our natural world. When I am amongst nature, I observe my surroundings in detail. Taking in nature’s color pallet, shapes, and the textures and forms that plant life presents to me. I notice the alluring way light falls on foliage, the captivating vibrant colors of botanicals and gnarled branches on a tree. I appreciate the power and movement of the ocean and how the New Zealand landscapes are formed over time, against the elements. I love to create floral artwork. I’m inspired by their vibrant colors, form and textures. I believe in bringing joy to people and that we all need to slow down. As the saying goes ‘take time to stop and smell the flowers. For me, nature and flowers provide that opportunity. We live in such a beautiful world and all these factors serve as inspiration for my art. Nature is steady and tenacious. It is always shifting and changing, adapting to it’s environment. It’s also an emblem of growth and renewal. I consider my artwork a part of nature and representation of this. The ecosystem that surrounds us all is one of nature’s many gifts. There is such a delicacy around the world’s ecosystem and the environment, and it deserves to be treated with respect. My aim is to evoke a connection and sense of meaning between the viewer and my paintings. To highlight nature’s many gifts and to bring a sense of deep-seated calm, intrigue, grounding and presence.
