Katy Hutchins Divide Acrylic on canvas 300 x 300mm $495 The paintings in this series began as a way of finding ground. Made across a period of change and rebuilding, they trace a return to New Plymouth, to the wide skies and layered horizons of Taranaki, and to paint itself. The landscape became a way of thinking. A way of steadying. Each work is built through accumulation, texture pressed into texture, colour laid over colour, marks half-buried and half-revealed. The horizon holds everything. Sky, earth, and water repeat and shift, the same landscape seen in different light, different weather, different states of mind. Gathering Light is what this series has been, quietly, all along.
