Description
Kimi Thomson Patchwork Pine & Dowel 530 x 500 x 40 mm
Kimi’s artwork began as expressive sketches using pencil and ballpoint pen, harnessing a gestural yet dynamic approach. Recently moving into the arena of sculpture, where she works intuitively exploring her passion for spirituality and creativity, has encouraged a fresh approach to personal well-being. Utilizing the Shou Sugi Ban technique combined with found objects, driftwood, plywood, and other wood products, alongside etchings on PVC and perspex, her artworks combine organic and industrial aesthetics to create a new experience of sculptural form. The intent is to arouse within the viewer an intense feeling of connectedness to themselves and their place in the world using natural timbers, and elemental processes.
Everyday it’s important as individuals to grow, learning from the lessons of life. The struggles people face are not meant to break the individual but to make them even stronger. It’s an opportunity to either allow the fire to consume one or let it grow to become a burning desire to be the best possible version of oneself.
Charred Remnants represents a reflection on how after a fire has ranged its war causing devastation and loss, good and beautiful can still arise from it.
