Description

Mahaki Akauola Te Ao MDF, Perspex & Aerosol $250

As an artist deeply rooted in contemporary Māori art, my work reflects a connection to our ancestral landscapes and traditions. My four pieces explore the significance of our maunga Titohea, bridging the realms of te ao (the world of light) and te pō (the world of darkness). Central to my practice is the taiaha, a symbol of strength and resilience, embodying the power and wisdom of our people. Through these works, I aim to honor our cultural heritage while engaging with the modern world.
