Paint pen on canvas board 900 x 600 mm
My creative process involves using a balance of colours that are instinctively chosen each day, and on other occasions are an intentional response to my intuition. My use of repetition is unregulated but is constantly being refined. Texture which plays across all my work, returns the sense of touch and movement to the paintings; each mark is purposeful. Drawing on influences and aversions from the world around me, such as shape, sound, and touch, I move towards some sensations and avoid others, all this returns to my practice and play out in different ways. I use introspection throughout my process to allow a creative flow that is a subtle invitation into my own mental and emotional state, which are changeable and oscillating from an internal emotional response to a playful external reaction played out on a canvas with the body and gesture. My work always has a starting point, either large scale or very small scale and they grow or diminish as I work through ideas while making and being responsive to the outcomes.
